We celebrated Flag Day and the Army’s 249th birthday with a Flagpole Dedication Ceremony at Merrilltown Cemetery on June 14th. Members of the American Legion and the U.S. Army Recruiting Station in Round Rock were on hand for the ceremony to celebrate the long overdue flag.
The Merrilltown Cemetery has been a historic burial ground since the 1850’s. Buried amongst the dead are veterans of military conflicts and a Texas Ranger. The cemetery has never had a flag flying over the grounds. Two members of the American Legion recognized the need and reached out to us for help so we got to work. The endeavor was a Community Involvement project for our Public Safety Cadet Post Unit 711 and our Criminal Justice interns from Navarro Early High School who took on the task.
