Travis County Pct. 2 Law Enforcement Explorers Angling To Help At Fishing Tournament

The Lake waters of Precinct 2 were busy from May 17- 20 with the 2018 Toyota Bassmaster Texas Fest. A little over one hundred anglers were competing for a large amount of prize money. The event brings in thousands of fans to the Jones Brothers Park to check out the Outdoor Adventures Area hosted by the Texas Park and Wildlife Department. The event was free to the public and included an outdoor expo with different booths, snacks, and state park information. On Saturday, the tournament even changed into a fundraiser for Round Rock Police Officer Charles Whites. Whites died on April 27th from injuries he sustained after a driver ran into him while he was directing traffic on I-35 in February. All of the money raised from the fundraiser will support Whites's surviving wife.

The task to keep everyone safe during the Fishing Tournament was headed by the Jonestown Police Department. The Precinct 2 Explorers, Post 711 with their Advisors had the pleasure to be invited by the Jonestown Police Department and be a part of the event. The Explorers walked the grounds, interacted with the fans, and learned about the different programs offered by the Texas Park and Wildlife. Throughout the year, the Explorers and the Advisors attended many events and put in hundreds of community service hours. The Explorers learn the importance of being involved with the community at different levels.
