After Pct. 2 sent officers to the Texas coast and Houston after Hurricane Harvey, Travis County Constable's Office Pct. 2 recognized the need to have this dedicated unit available for other operations. The Special Response Team (SRT) was formed as a trained, prepared, efficient, and quickly deployed unit. The mission of the Special Response Team (SRT) is to support the extraordinary needs of law enforcement such as high risk arrests, civil disturbances, hostage situations, barricaded subjects, and high-level rescue scenarios. The SRT will also be supporting the civil deputies with high stress civil processes such as evictions and writ of possessions, where mental health issues may also play a role in residents being a danger to themselves or others. The objective of the Special Response Team is the resolution of high risk/crisis situations while minimizing potential injury or loss of life.
The SRT is led by Sr. Sgt Mike Jennings and its members Sgt. Sam Lindsey, Cpl. Kenneth Guerrero, Cpl. Patrick Youngren, Deputy Sergio Flores, Deputy Oshay Garden, Deputy Robert Miri, and Deputy Chelsea Anderson. The SRT is trained in crisis intervention techniques to properly handle people dealing with mental health issues. The SRT is committed to attend special training in May and will be achieving more certifications in the future. Pct. 2 is dedicated to serving Travis County in all endeavors and the SRT is an example of our commitment.
